Warts are viral infections which could cause some unsightly cauliflower – like growths on any part of the skin, even the face and the lips. Can you get genital warts on the lips? The answer, unfortunately, is yes, and they can be stubborn.
Some people think that warts can only grow on the fingers, feet, and other skin areas, but not on the lips. Well, they are wrong. Some have asked “can you get genital warts on the lips?” and they are misinformed when they get a negative answer. Unfortunately, genital warts are one of the most infectious sexually transmitted diseases and it can grow on the lips and mar its general appearance.
A single wart may be seen near or at the corner of the mouth and the more severe infection can cause some larger bumps on the lips. These are generally painless but taking any hot or spicy drinks can irritate them to a degree which could cause discomfort, even bleeding. Worse is, once they are continuously rubbed on, they can transfer onto the pads of the fingers which can transfer the virus to others if that individual does not wash their hands and continue on with their daily tasks.
Usually having sex with a partner or several partners who are infected is the usual reason behind the transmissions and it is highly contagious. There are ways to get rid of warts on the lips and there are over the counter medications available for use. However, before considering self-medication, it is recommended to consult with the physician to avoid any complications which may arise out of the treatments.
If the cause is STD, then it is doubly critical to consult with the doctor to prevent further contamination, transmission, and occurrences. It is also important to avoid bleeding from the wart for this could cause a secondary bacterial infection which could prolong the healing time and cause some scarring.
